Hey there!

So you can probably tell that I’m more than a little interested in the Illustrator position at Lincoln Design. I’ve got a crush on your agency for a few reasons. It could be the Jurassic World branding or your skateboard decks for Tony Hawk. It could be that you’re located in the PNW just like me (and within rollerblading distance…kind of). Maybe it was the Sasquatch on your LinkedIn Ad. In any case, Lincoln seems like an amazing team to learn, grow, and collaborate with. I’d love to introduce myself.

My name is McKenzie Young-Roy and I’m an illustrator and designer living and working just outside of Portland, OR and within commuting distance of Lincoln. My illustration career started with a BFA and a focus in illustration from George Fox University in 2019. It’s continued through a variety of roles including three stints as an in-house illustrator (Soma Games, George Fox University, and Willamette Week), an almost eight year freelance practice, and has been integral in each of my design jobs. I’ve gotten to work with clients like A Kids Book About, OwlCrate Jr., Twogether Studios, Verb, MarninSaylor, EBSCO host, and various other organizations, universities, and publications. And my work has been funded by the Regional Arts and Culture Council (2021) and awarded Best in Illustration by the Society of Professional Journalism. Now to the specifics:

Proficient in digital illustration via iPad and Procreate, as well as a Wacom Tablet and Adobe products such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, XD, and Premiere, I bring a versatile skill set to the table. My projects span from digital illustration to traditional, with examples including creating supplementary illustrations for learning content through Verb (goverb.com), illustrating A Kids Book About OCD, creating cover and editorial illustrations for Willamette Week, and designing a sticker based on Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief for Owlcrate Jr. I also had the opportunity to contribute to the designs for the spin-off card game of the hit podcast The Adventure Zone for Twogether Studios and participated in marketing the first officially licensed video game based on the Lost Legends of Redwall in conjunction with Penguin Random House UK.

Thanks for taking the time to both read this cover letter and review my work! I’ve created this page to highlight some of the work I think you’ll be interested in but you can also visit the rest of my website for more. I’m so excited about the possibility of contributing to the team at Lincoln, especially in person! I hope to talk more about that possibility with you soon.
